Xbira ( Abiraterone 500 )

Xbira, also referred to as Abiraterone 500, is a medication that works by inhibiting CYP17. It is specifically designed to be used along with prednisone for the treatment of patients diagnosed with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) or metastatic high-risk castration-sensitive prostate cancer (CSPC).

Abiraterone acetate Dosage

To treat metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, patients are advised to take 1,000mg of Abiraterone orally once a day, in addition to 5mg of prednisone taken orally twice daily. For metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer, patients should take 1,000mg of Abiraterone orally once a day with 5mg of prednisone taken orally once a day. It is important that patients who take Abiraterone also receive a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analog simultaneously or have undergone bilateral orchiectomy.

Abiraterone tablets should be taken as a single dose once daily, preferably on an empty stomach. Patients should avoid eating food 2 hours before and 1 hour after taking Abiraterone, and they should swallow the tablets whole with water, without crushing or chewing them.

Dose adjustments may be required for certain patients. For those with moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class B) at baseline, the starting dose of Abiraterone should be decreased to 250mg once daily. If patients experience hepatotoxicity during treatment, Abiraterone should be stopped until recovery, and then retreatment may be initiated at a lower dose. In cases of severe hepatotoxicity, Abiraterone should be discontinued altogether.

Abiraterone side effect

Abiraterone can cause serious side effects such as hypertension (high blood pressure), edema (fluid retention), and hypokalemia (low blood potassium levels). It is crucial to inform your healthcare provider if you experience any of the following symptoms:

• Feeling lightheaded or dizzy
• Rapid heartbeats
• Headache
• Confusion
• Muscle weakness
• Pain or swelling in the legs
• Fainting
• Swelling in the feet or legs

Adrenal problems may arise if you stop taking prednisone, get an infection, or experience stress. Liver problems are another possible risk and can cause alterations in liver function blood tests. Before and during treatment with Abiraterone, your healthcare provider will conduct liver function blood tests. Liver failure can result in death, so it is important to inform your healthcare provider if you notice any of the following changes:

• Yellowing of the eyes or skin
• Darkening of urine
• Severe vomiting or nausea

Common side effects of Abiraterone include joint pain or swelling, leg or feet swelling, weakness, cough, vomiting, hot flashes, diarrhea, high blood pressure, shortness of breath, urinary tract infection, anemia (low red blood cells), hypokalemia (low blood potassium levels), hyperglycemia (high blood sugar levels), high blood cholesterol or triglycerides, and abnormal blood test results. If you experience any side effects that persist or concern you, inform your healthcare provider.
