Trombopag 50 mg ( Eltrombopag Olamina ) is a drug that activates the thrombopoietin receptor and is prescribed for various medical conditions. It is approved for use in adult and pediatric patients 1 year and older who have persistent or chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and have not responded adequately to other treatments such as corticosteroids, immunoglobulins, or splenectomy. Eltrombopag should only be used in patients with ITP who have an increased risk of bleeding due to their degree of thrombocytopenia and clinical condition.

Additionally, Eltrombopag is indicated for the treatment of thrombocytopenia in patients with chronic hepatitis C, who need to initiate or maintain interferon-based therapy, but are unable to do so due to their degree of thrombocytopenia. However, it should only be used in patients whose thrombocytopenia limits their ability to start or maintain interferon-based therapy.

Eltrombopa Dosing

To take Eltrombopag, it is recommended to take it either without a meal or with a meal that is low in calcium (≤50 mg). Eltrombopag olamine side effects

ELTROMBOPAG can lead to severe side effects, which include:

• Aggravation of a pre-cancerous blood condition resulting in acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), a form of blood cancer. ELTROMBOPAG is not recommended for people with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), a pre-cancerous condition. If you have MDS and receive ELTROMBOPAG, your condition may worsen, leading to AML, which can be fatal.

• Increased platelet counts and a higher risk of blood clots. Treatment with Eltrombopag can elevate platelet counts, raising the risk of blood clots. The risk of blood clots may also be elevated during treatment with Eltrombopag in people with normal or low platelet counts. Blood clots can cause severe complications, such as pulmonary embolism, heart attack, or stroke, leading to death. Your healthcare provider will monitor your platelet counts and adjust your dose or discontinue Eltrombopag if your platelet counts become too high. Inform your healthcare provider immediately if you experience symptoms of a blood clot in the leg, such as swelling, pain, or tenderness.

• People with chronic liver disease may have an increased risk of blood clots in the stomach area. Notify your healthcare provider right away if you experience stomach area pain, which could be a sign of this type of blood clot.

• New or worsened cataracts, which cause clouding of the eye's lens. ELTROMBOPAG has been associated with new or worsened cataracts. Your healthcare provider will conduct eye exams before and during your treatment with Eltrombopag. Notify your healthcare provider of any changes in your vision while taking Eltrombopag.
