Posanat also known as Posaconazole 100 mg, is an antifungal medication that uses posaconazole as its active ingredient. It is effective in preventing and treating various fungal infections by either inhibiting the growth or killing certain types of fungi.
In adults, posaconazole 100 mg is recommended when other antifungal medications have failed or had to be discontinued. It is particularly useful in treating infections caused by Aspergillus and Fusarium family fungi, as well as those that cause chromoblastomycosis, mycetoma, and Coccidioides. These infections are often resistant to other treatments, such as amphotericin B, itraconazole, or fluconazole.
In addition to treatment, posaconazole 100 mg is also used to prevent fungal infections in adults who are at high risk of developing such infections. This includes patients undergoing chemotherapy for acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) or myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), as well as those who receive high-dose immunosuppressive therapy after a hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT).
